Economic Accessibility: To ensure financial accessibility, Nikon created a new range of lenses, the E lenses. Three E lenses were available at launch: a 50 mm f/1.8, a 35 mm f /2.5, and a 100mm f/2.8. These optics were mounted on a polycarbonate AI mount.

Reasonable Compromises: To maintain a competitive price, certain features found on high-end models have been omitted. For example, there is no exposure lock or depth of field test.
